Western Michigan is a great place to live and raise a family. Conveniently located on the banks of the Grand River, 30 minutes from Lake Michigan, 3 hours to Chicago and 2.5 hours to Detroit.
Many new and exciting things are happening in Grand Rapids. Down town Grand Rapids has many new Condo Developments, creating a walking community. You can walk to many fine restaurants, boutiques or walk along the Grand River. Grand Rapids is the only city in Michigan to have their own ballet company and also offers their own symphony and opera. Civic Theatre and the Broadway Theatre guild offer a variety of wonderful performances each year that include many familiar names.
Lets not forget our local sport teams, Grand Rapids Griffins (hockey), West Michigan White caps (baseball) and Grand Rapids Rampage (arena football).
The medical mile is well on its way, the billion-dollar cluster of hospitals, research laboratories, educational facilities and medical specialty buildings has been taking shape. Creating new jobs and inspiring many relocation families.

Ice Fishing
Due to the many available lakes, I felt like I needed to list them all or not at all. So, lets just say, if this is a sport you like to get involved with, you will not have a problem.
East Grand Rapids – Reeds Lake
If you are keeping up with the post thus far, you realize I do not like to go out in the cold. However, I am in minority. Look at what they do in the winter on Reeds Lake.
The lake is the center if year-round activity. In the winter they ice fish, ice boating, golf tournament and A Kite flying day!
The 2008 golf game called “Ice T” is scheduled for Saturday March 1st. Call Bill at Roses Café in EGR to get a T time. (616) 458-1122
The Annual Kite flying on the lake is February 16th, no registration required, just bring your kite, and the bigger the better.
Both events are family oriented and much fun to be had by all! Maybe I will go?????
