J.J. Steele is the pen name of a full-time writer living in Denver, Colorado. He grew up in a working class neighborhood of New York City and was heavily influenced by the beat writers of the '50s and the westerns of John Ford. In a Hemingwayesque gesture, he enlisted in the Marine Corps at eighteen and served in the Far East where he studied Haiku and Zen. He has been a film and video editor, college instructor, consultant to non-profits, prospector and the owner of a historic gold mining claim. He is a very slow runner, a totally inept fly fisherman, a decent cook and believes that he is the poster child for the idea, "If he can do it, anybody can."
