Open Call: International Physical Theatre Festival

Open Call: International Physical Theatre Festival Physical Fest in Liverpool is accepting submissions for extracts of new physical work for Fest Live- 26th May 2012.

Deadline: 31 March

Physical Fest is an eight day, annual festival of workshops, events
and performances which attracts artists and participants from all over
the world. The festival is seeking submissions for their open
platform showcase event, Fest Live which presents extracts of new
physical/ movement based work from both emerging and established
artists. Fest Live is a collaboration with the Unity Theatre Liverpool
and an opportunity to showcase your work to northwest promoters and a
festival audience. If you are interested in submitting an extract,
which could be from an existing piece, or a piece in development,
please email info@physicalfest.com for an application form.

EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY COSTUME IN BRITISH PAINTINGS

Liverpool & the Walker Art Gallery

The art history programme at Continuing Education is pleased to
provide a new opportunity for distinguished lecturers to offer short
courses in our community. Hugh Belsey is an internationally-recognised
expert on Thomas Gainsborough and is currently completing the
definitive catalogue of his portraits. Hugh was in 2004 appointed MBE
in recognition of his work as head of Gainsborough’s House, Sudbury
from 1981 to 2004. During the Continuing Education study day, the
discussion will range from how the clothing in portraits reflects
aspirations of social position and what this tells us about the
sitter, the artist and their culture, to how the types of fantastical
costumes in some eighteenth-century portraits reveal a nostalgia for
Van Dyck’s golden age of the previous century. The day will also
include a trip to the Walker Art Gallery, where Gainsborough’s
Isabella, Lady Sefton displays her magnificent gown next to other
grandly and more humbly-costumed sitters.
