The mission statement for www.GilbertAZ.info is to facilitate the building of community in our hometown, Gilbert, Arizona. To accomplish this mission we will create an open forum for candid human conversation and shine our spotlight on the people and issues shaping Gilbert. We do this because we want Gilbert to be a great hometown. We believe that a community that is curious and engaged, where people trust one another and get involved is the type of community we want to live in. We BuildCommunity (www.BuildCommunity.net) through key everyday actions. These actions have the cumulative effect of increasing the quality of life in a community. By deliberately doing more of these specific activities we can build the kind of community we want to live in. We call these key everyday actions Splotz of Glue because they connect us and strengthen the bonds that create community. Splotz of Glue are the key everyday actions that we do to be better informed, to connect with others, to build trust, and to get involved. Splotz of Glue, when done together and in abundance, have the cumulative effect of improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods. Learn - Informed citizens is the first cornerstone of community. To inform yourself and then to act builds community. Connect - Strong connections is the second cornerstone of community. The more people we are connected to, the more support we have, the more protected we are. Trust - Trust is the third cornerstone of community. The measure of trust we place in our neighbors, our elected officials, our public servants affects our perceived quality of life. Act - Get involved and be the fourth cornerstone of community. Civic activity builds community. Communities where people are informed about current events, where there are strong connections, where there is trust, and where civic activity is high are communities that we want to live in. These are communities that have a good quality of life. Focusing on only one of these activities is not enough. They must be done together and in abundance. We started this website because we truly believe that a community that is well informed and curious, a community where its citizens are connected to each other, a community built on trust and conversation, and (most importantly) a community that has a high level of civic participation is a community we want to live in. This is our mission. This is our hometown. This is our Gilbert.
