A Hot Time in Florida Tonight...

It's not just the dead-heat GOP primaries that have Florida bloggers contemplating politics, but also the hotly-contested Property Tax Amendment #1, the 75th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition, and a blogger getting sued for $25M....

In presidential politics, Tommy at Sticks of Fire picks McCain for the Republicans not just because he's old, but also because he sees McCain as "the only one with the guts enough to finish the job in Iraq properly." On the Democratic side, Tommy picks Obama because Clinton "simply too willing to tell you what you want to hear" and Edwards "seems to be chasing butterflies."

A cooler-headded Robin "Roblimo" Miller sees Obama and McCain as a worthy general election contest and "a true referendum on where we want our country to go and how we want its affairs to be handled. Big government or little government? Try to fix our mess in Iraq or bring the troops home and let the Iraqis solve their own problems? And so on..."

Meanwhile Jeffrey Billman at the Orlando Weekly's Bloggery blog receives an email from the National Beer Wholesalers Association(NBWA) that asks, in honor of the 75th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition "who (among the candidates) do you want to have a beer with?" (dot com) Jeff notes that, right now, Obama's ahead in this "heady" election category...

And the Sayfie Review's Justin Safie believes the GOP race too close to call...

On the proposed Property Tax Amendment #1, Front Page Florida.com notes that Florida Governor Charles Christ not only supports the proposal but also endorses McCain, while Venice Florida! dot com (along with the Sarasota Herald Tribune) urge a "no" vote...

But it's not just property tax reform that's problematic. Critical Miami links to the from-the-horse's-mouth report by Miami Condo Investments blog on being sued by Opera Tower LLC developer Tibor Hollo for $25 million. Opera Tower and Hollo are also suing blogger Lucas Lechuga's former employer EWM Relators in connection with Lechuga's statements on his blog. Lehuga's blog is a personal blog and appears to not be connected to his work with EWR. This will be a very interesting, and perhaps important, case on blogger's First Amendment rights and employer's liability vis a vis an employee's personal blogging.
