After getting back from the JTM conference, it hit me that summertime's a big time for conferences and other types of blogger-related gatherings. Here's a very short list of some upcoming conferences:
Personal Democracy Forum June 23-24, NYC. If you're a political junkie, the PDF is a great gathering. Presenters at this year's PDF include Arianna Huffington, Clay Shirky, Jane Hamsher, Patrick Ruffini and there are plenty of panels discussing everything from tools to organizing "net-roots" groups to fundraising.
BizJam Seattle '08 July 9-10, Youngstown Cultural Arts Center, Seattle, WA. This looks to be a great con for the small business entrepreneur looking to find out how to better use social media/social networking tools. Presented by the folks who put together BizNik the social networking site that combines both online and face-to-face networking, so you can bet that there will be much more than just sitting and listening to people telling you how to do this social networking thing right.
Independent Government Observer's Task Force August 4-5, Gleacher Conference Center, University of Chicago. Organized by Public.Resource.Org, this "non-conference" plans to be a working group for putting more government information on line. Check their site for more information.
Online News Association Annual Conference September 11-13, Washington, D.C. The Online News Association is a great organization, and even thought his conference is a bit more costly than some others, many of the workshops and panels are worth it. Membership in the ONA is open to bloggers (as an "associate" member) and will allow for a discount on conference registration. This year's conference will host an Ethics Panel with the hopes of developing a Code of Ethics for online journalists, bloggers and "citizen journalists."
Blog World Expo September 20-21, Las Vegas, NV. This is an event for bloggers of all different stripes. And conference founder Rick Calvert tells me this year's event is shaping up to be bigger than last year's. The agenda isn't formalized just yet, but check the site and the BWE blog regularly for updates on speakers and panels. Besides, who wouldn't love a couple of days in Las Vegas??
If you know of any other regional or national conferences/unconferences that might be of interest, drop me an email at tish at placeblogger.com, or leave a comment with a link to the conference home page and some info (remember: comments here are moderated.)
Hope to see you at some of these great upcoming events!
