As the new additions to Placeblogger, we’d like to introduce ourselves.
Our names are Eugenie and Alison and we are, respectively, a junior and a graduating senior at Emerson College, clinging to what people tell us is an unfortunate major - Journalism. We can hear you shouting: "News?? No one watches those boring CNN newscasts! And newspapers are a dying breed!!" But news comes in all shapes and sizes. News is your Facebook rant on healthcare, a Twitter series on your grandmother's cooking, or an online photo album of Cambridge in the summer. It's blogs galore, from one following local politics to a travel blog of your trip across Europe.
Enough dreamy postulating; let's hit the basics. As your print-focused journalist, I’m Alison. I love all music from Alice in Chains to the Backstreet Boys, hitting every country singer, pop star, rocker, and classical composer in between. I read constantly - mostly fiction novels. (Pop onto my Twitter @alimccall21 if you want book reviews!) I've been to three countries - Canada, Taiwan and Thailand - leaving me with almost zero French and enough Chinese to impress a 3-year-old. I interned with the Cape Cod Times last summer, and my claim to fame is a journalism award from a nudist association!
"Well, I Love That Dirty Water, Ohhhh, Boston You're My Home!" The Standells' couldn't have said it any better! Hello Everyone, my name is Eugenie. A native of Boston, I am definitely use to the fast paced city life...and I love it. I have also lived in both Amherst and Springfield for a few years. Whether it's shopping on Newbury with handful of brown Urban Outfitters bags or grabbing a sausage from Sausage Guy on Lansdowne, I love my city. I also love music too! At times, I find music being best friend because it is always there. It doesn't matter if I'm indulged in the sorrowful moan and groans of Coldplay or hitting the dance floor to Beyonce's Single Ladies tune, music never seems to fail me.
